Tall, rangy character actor in many westerns and outdoor dramas. Born and raised in Missouri, Jim Davis' relaxed, easygoing manner and Southern drawl typified the image of the cowboy, and he spent many years at Republic doing just that. He alternated between good-guy and villain roles, one of his better roles being that of the devious, murderous fur trapper working for Kirk Douglas' competition in The Big Sky . He is best known, however, for his role as the Ewing family patriarch Jock in the long-running TV series "Dallas".
Jim Davis started drumming at the age of 12, and took private lessons from Randy Roth (in Butler, PA - just north of Pittsburgh) from 1980 - 1986. After performing in various high school music ensembles (e.g., jazz, orchestra, marching band) and local bands, he auditioned for and was selected by Young American Showcase (based out of St. Petersburg, FL) as a drummer to extensively tour the U.S. and Canada from 1986 - 1988 with the groups Free Fare and The Edge. Following the tours he completed his education and received his Ph.D. from the MIT Media Lab (Cambridge, MA) in 2000. He now resides in Columbus, OH where he is a Professor at Ohio State University and freelances as a drummer. He is experienced in all styles of music (particularly interested in playing Jazz Fusion and Smooth Jazz), and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society. He lists his major drumming influences as Steve Gadd, Thomas Lang, and so many more...
